New Star International Property Fund

Henderson New Star have announced that from 12th February 2010 the International Property fund will  reopen for daily dealing, so we will be able to recommence investing or withdrawing from the fund. You may well have already received a letter from the life office confirming this.

At Jones Sheridan, we have for some time been giving thought as to what action to take on your behalf  when the fund opened for business and we are now writing to advise you of the actions we think are appropriate for any existing investment in the fund. Read the rest of this entry »

Market Overview
2009 proved to be a very eventful year for the financial markets.  The FTSE 100 started the year at
4,434 before it was all doom and gloom in March 2009 as the FTSE fell to 3,530.  This represented a
20% fall in value since the start of the year and 44% off its peak in May 2008.  Excluding a minor
waiver in market confidence in July 2009, the markets have rallied significantly and finished the year
22% up on the start of the year, with the FTSE closing on 5,412 on New Years Eve.

Tax liability for those with significant income set to rise

Some of these changes are already in place, whilst others take effect in future years. The Chancellor has not only brought forward proposals which were to take place in 2011, he has also made changes to his original announcements.

Goldman Sachs predicts sharp rebound for ailing UK economy

goldman sachs logoWith the usual welter of annual predictions doing the rounds, Goldman Sachs has thrown its hat in the ring, calling a sharp rebound for the UK over the next two years.

The group’s star analyst and head of global economic research Jim O’Neill is confidently betting that the UK will deliver above consensus growth in both 2010 and 2011.

He says: ‘The significant easing in financial conditions that the UK has experienced partly due to the depreciation in sterling is likely to lift growth to 1.9% in 2010 and 3.4% in 2011.’
